Photocatalysis

“Many transition metal oxides are known to display a photocatalytic behavior, i.e., these substances can act as catalysts and promote oxidation or reduction reactions when activated by electromagnetic radiation. Titanium dioxide has played by far a much larger role compared to other semiconductor photocatalysts due to its cost effectiveness, inert nature and photostability, as proved by the extensive literature involving such semiconductor. The widest application field of titanium dioxide in photocatalysis is pollutants degradation, and specially the mineralization of organic contaminants.”
